I hope everyone has been weathering this lockdown well. As someone who tends to be more of a homebody anyway, it isn’t vastly different than how my life already is.
Honestly, there is no place I’d rather be than at my own home. I have missed being able to go to church, though. We’ve also been unable to visit some of our family members, for instance my grandparents who have been safe on their farm, but are in their upper-80s. I’m thankful that it looks like (Lord willing!) the time will come soon when we’ll all be able to spend time together again.
I’ve been grateful for the opportunity to work on some projects I’ve had in mind for a while now. Thanks to my son building me some raised beds in late March, we were able to get a new garden started — the first I’ve had since 2012. I had most of my seeds planted by April 1 and I’ve been planting new things ever since.
We had about a week of rain recently. Today was our first break from it. I did post this video to Facebook yesterday, though.
I ❤️ YouTube! Now you can watch my channel.
I’ve been watching a lot of YouTube videos during this quarantine. My favorites have been gardening videos, but basically I love all kinds of videos where I can learn new thing.
Watching so many great channels, I’ve become inspired to start a new YouTube channel to go with a new website I started back in March, Old Time Knowledge. My goal is to post articles and make videos about old-fashioned things like cooking, gardening, old farm life, and so forth, especially from an eastern North Carolina perspective, but also traditional living from all sorts of places. So many things pique my interest and I would think it might be the same for others, as well!
Here is the first video. It’s starts off with some still images, but it does actually get into some moving content. In the future, I expect the production quality to get much better. (My photography and video-savvy son said he will gladly help me.) This particular video was spur-of-the-moment and I was not going to be on camera looking like I had just come in from working in the garden all day, which I had!
I hope you’ll consider subscribing to my new channel!

A book update
I suppose another thing that has come out of all of the time we’ve had during this lockdown is that with less work, I’ve had time to clear my mind and start thinking again about what the new Book 7 might look like.
I do think there will be a Book 7 sometime this year, only I still don’t know exactly when, or the full details of the story. There are elements of the draft I had been working on that I expect I will keep, but other things I had planned to do I will be scrapping altogether and going in a new direction.
If you’ve read this whole blog post, I thank you for your interest and I hope you’ll send a message, comment on Facebook, or YouTube to let me know what you’re up to and what you think about all of this.
God bless and take care!
